Ride for Freedom

Story

Hi there!

On the 4th of November 2023 we're gearing up for a group cycle ride from Wellington to Palmerston North to fundraise for the Modern Slavery cause that's close to our hearts. We’d appreciate any contribution, big or small.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to Tearfund to enable the freedom for people caught up in modern day slavery.

About this event:

Ride for Freedom from Modern Slavery

Through this Wellington to Palmy fundraising event you have the opportunity to partner with us to free vulnerable people in the developing world and give them a voice. Supporting this event will have an extraordinary impact, empowering women and children in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, to live with dignity.

Tearfund's Modern Slavery work means that you will be able to help prevent trafficking and exploitation, through providing their partners with the necessary funds to deliver holistic support to communities. This includes the prosecution of perpetrators, advocating for policy change and collaboration with other organisations and rehabilitation and awareness.

Tearfund's partner in Fiji focuses on equipping women and survivors with practical skills to secure safe and sustainable work. Over 60 live-in residents within the programme receive practical skills which they could use to seek a vocation.

In Thailand, Tearfund's partner LIFT, has gained traction on shared cases with government organisations and agencies, strengthening collaborative efforts to increase deterrence of trafficking at a systemic level. Tailoring anti-trafficking programmes and advocacy efforts to align with cultural values, beliefs and behaviour is an approach also being modelled across Tearfund's work.

Currently Tearfund's SAFE (Modern Slavery) programme benefits 20,000 people, and indirectly impacts more than 81,000. Tearfund is weaving together their Modern Slavery and Farming & Enterprise initiatives to build safe, aware, free and empowered communities through our partners in Sri Lanka, Vanuatu, Fiji and Solomon Islands.

Thanks so much for your support!

Tearfund (The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund)

Freedom is a basic human right. Yet there are more people enslaved today than any time in human history. Tearfund has a hunger for justice and is committed to addressing the issue of sex trafficking through empowerment, rescue, prosecution, and restoration of survivors. The humble bike is a universal symbol of hope and freedom. Tearfund is building a community on the move for freedom. Join Tearfund’s community on bikes and ensure vulnerable children are protected, innocent lives rescued, perpetrators brought to justice and broken lives restored. It’s expensive work but not compared to the worth of the victims’ lives.
